ELEMENTS OF A COMPUTER.

A computer is made up of hardwares and softwares. A software is the program (instructions) inside the computer that enables it manipulate data. An individual program consists of lines of instructions (codes) that tell the computer what to do.

TYPES OF SOFTWARE.

There are 3 basic types of softwares, namely; system software, translators and application softwares.

1.      System Software: these are the programs written by computer manufacturers and some specialized software houses such as Microsoft, Apple, etc. They act as interface between the computer and the computer users. They are designed to control and manage the internal operations of the hardware and also to run application software. Examples include; Operating Systems (windows, mac, linux ubuntu, etc)

Functions of Operating System: Booting, Error detection, Program loading, File management, etc.

2.      Translators: they are used to translate source programs to object programs, examples are compilers and interpreters used by programmers.

3.      Application Software: are programs written by some software houses to accomplish various practical task. Examples are Adobe photoshop, Mozilla firefox, and other millions of software.
